Dean joined Purcell in 2026, bringing experience leading multidisciplinary teams on complex projects across the education, science and heritage sectors.

Prior to joining Purcell, he led the refurbishment and adaptation of James Stirling’s Grade II* Faculty of History building at the University of Cambridge, developing proposals that balanced heritage significance, sustainability and contemporary requirements.

Dean has a particular interest in the conservation and adaptation of post-war buildings, driven by a passion for twentieth-century architecture and a belief that thoughtful reuse is fundamental to a more sustainable built environment.

Alongside practice, Dean has delivered guest lectures on adaptive reuse, circular economy and building performance, and is passionate about sharing knowledge, mentoring colleagues and supporting the development of future architects.

Outside of work, Dean is a keen climber and cyclist. He enjoys exploring architecture through travel and can often be found seeking out remarkable twentieth-century buildings or spending weekends in the mountains.
