A double win in Australia at the 2025 AIA Architecture Awards

NSW Parliament House and Reuben College come away with National and International wins at the AIA Awards 2025

NSW Parliament House, Sydney

We’re incredibly proud to share that our restoration of NSW Parliament House, in collaboration with Tonkin Zulaikha Greer (TZG), has won the Lachlan Macquarie Award for Heritage at the 2025 Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) Awards.

This prestigious national award recognises excellence in heritage conservation and celebrates projects that honour the past while actively supporting the future. For us, this project was exactly that; an opportunity to safeguard one of Australia’s most significant public buildings while ensuring it continues to serve the people of New South Wales.

As the oldest public building in continuous use in the country, NSW Parliament House, Sydney, is a site of national significance. Our role was to deliver a unified and sensitive response to this historically rich and complex site. Together with TZG we restored and preserved critical heritage elements, upgraded services, and enhanced accessibility – all while ensuring the building remained fully operational in its vital civic role.

This award is a testament to the collaborative effort between the client, architects, heritage consultants, materials conservation specialists, government stakeholders, and skilled craftspeople.

Thank you to the NSW Parliament team, and everyone who contributed to this important work. We look forward to continuing our mission of bringing new life to heritage through thoughtful, collaborative design.

"Receiving this national recognition from the AIA is a true honour. It reinforces our belief that heritage-led design plays a central role in shaping sustainable, inclusive, and culturally rich places."

– Tracey Skovronek, Managing Director, Purcell Asia Pacific

Also awarded, Reuben College, Oxford UK

Reuben College, in collaboration with fjcstudio, has won the 2025 AIA International Award! We proudly contributed to this transformative refurbishment of Grade II listed buildings within the Science and Central Conservation Area – Oxford’s first new college in nearly 30 years.

“Reuben College was a visionary project that challenged us to reimagine heritage for contemporary academic life. As conservation architects, we worked closely with fjcstudio to sensitively adapt and revitalise the historic buildings, ensuring their character and significance were preserved while supporting the college’s bold ambitions. This award reflects the strength of that collaboration and the value of heritage-led design."
