Dr. Tom Brigden is an architect and heritage consultant specialising in the conservation and adaptive reuse of historic buildings.

Tom holds a BSc and MArch (with distinction) from the Welsh School of Architecture at Cardiff University, a PhD in the History and Theory of Architecture from Newcastle University, a PGCert in Professional Practice from the University of Cambridge, and an MBA in Construction and Real Estate from the University College of Estate Management.

His PhD research, which examined the impact of view protection on urban form, was commended at the 2014 RIBA President’s Awards. This work culminated in his 2018 book, Value in the View: Conserving Historic Urban Views, which explores the cultural and political narratives embedded in urban vistas. He has also authored The Protected Vista: An Intellectual and Cultural History, further analyzing the historical and theoretical aspects of view protection.

Tom has lectured at institutions including the Architectural Association in London, Cardiff and Newcastle Universities, and the Washington Alexandria Architecture Centre. His work continues to influence debates on heritage, urban planning, and the visual identity of cities.
