Ryan Sun   孫軼駿

Ryan is a Senior Architectural Conservationist and part of the Asia Pacific BIM Steering Group, focussed on championing the use of BIM software on projects throughout the region. He is a professional member and currently a council member of HKICON (The Hong Kong Institute of Architectural Conservationists), a professional body that advocates for the recognition, protection, and conservation of built heritage in Hong Kong.

Originally from Shanghai, in mainland China, where he not only studied but also undertook various internships in his preferred field, his academic background in heritage conservation has been further developed by his passion and interest in design across Chinese and Western culture. Now based in Hong Kong, Ryan leads projects from planning through to completion, managing heritage documentation and overseeing project construction on site, all of which appeal to his strengths in managing design in historical contexts.

Ryan’s interest in traditional arts began at a young age when he was learning Chinese Calligraphy: this later translated into appreciation of architecture. Fascinated by both traditional Chinese and Western classical design, during university he attended the REMPART Volunteering Heritage Camp in France, focussed on masonry repairs and carving for restoration of a 13th century castle, Coucy-le-Château.

This diverse understanding of different cultures frames Ryan’s approach to conservation. His openminded outlook appeals to the ‘problem solving’ and ‘hands-on’ aspect of heritage. He endeavours to incorporate the best interests of all parties, uncovering hidden gems through site inspections.
