Jonathan - ‘Jo’ - is Regional Partner for the North UK. Since joining Purcell as a Part I student in 2006, he has gone on to become a leading practitioner in the care, repair, and creative development of complex historical sites, often establishing lasting relationships with his clients, their buildings and their communities. He now works across the UK from his base in York.
An intuitive understanding of how buildings work underpins a thoughtful, clear and practical response to the challenges of looking after built heritage. Jo works with clients from the earliest of stages to form well-resolved strategic briefs and deliver projects targeted to bring meaningful outcomes for the long-term betterment of the fabric.
Long-standing roles for the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple and Drapers Livery Company are complemented by his personal appointments as Surveyor to the Fabric of Canterbury Cathedral and Cathedral Architect to Lichfield Cathedral. He is the RIBA appointed Commissioner for the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England and has served on awards and accreditation panels.
Passionate about skills and craft, Jo thoroughly enjoys teaching, mentoring and learning from past and future generations of all those engaged in the heritage professions
