Purcell supports the Wallace Collection’s next chapter

Appointed as heritage and conservation lead on the project, Purcell brings over 20 years of experience advising the Wallace Collection.

Our work has included the acclaimed restoration of the Great Gallery, completed in 2014, and ongoing conservation support for the museum’s Grade II-listed home. We are honoured to be part of this next chapter in the museum’s history.

The new masterplan, led by Selldorf Architects, will enhance the visitor experience, improve access and sustainability, and deliver new learning and back-of-house spaces -all while safeguarding the architectural significance and historic fabric of Hertford House. Purcell’s role will be central to ensuring that change is delivered sensitively and sustainably, in keeping with the building’s unique character and the museum’s international standing.

Our appointment reflects not only our deep familiarity with Hertford House, but also the strength of our collaborative relationship with Selldorf Architects having worked most recently on the successful redesign of the National Gallery’s Sainsbury Wing.

Launching in the museum’s 125th anniversary year, the Wallace Collection masterplan represents a bold commitment to public engagement, educational access, and long-term resilience. As design development continues through 2025, Purcell is proud to stand alongside the museum and project team in shaping its future.
