Purcell projects win at The Georgian Group Awards

Purcell have been working at Stowe House – one of England’s largest and grandest Georgian country houses – for over 20 years, undertaking a series of restoration projects, including the South Front, North Hall, the Blue Room, State Library, Marble Saloon, and State Drawing Room.

The ambitious project was finally drawn to a close with the restoration of the State Dining Room earlier this year, and we are thrilled to see the project win the ‘Restoration of a Georgian Country House’ category.

“The sheer cumulative scale of these works, the underlying pragmatism that allows the building to continue to function as a school, and the quality of what has been achieved, has established new restoration standards.”

The Inner Hall at Windsor Castle, which received the Diaphoros Prize at the awards ceremony, was restored as part of the Royal Collection’s Trust’s major Future Programme Project. The completed project has seen the historic Georgian interior to be opened to the public as an improved and enhanced welcome area for visitors to Windsor.

The restoration was featured on the front page of Country Life Magazine earlier this year, in a special issue celebrating the coronation of King Charles.
