NSW Parliament Chambers wins National Trust Heritage Award 2024

We’re delighted to share that our work on the NSW Parliament House Chambers Restoration Project has won best Interiors & Objects at The National Trust (NSW) Heritage Awards 2024.

The National Trust (NSW) Heritage Awards 2024 is an annual celebration of outstanding practice, awarding excellence in conservation of Aboriginal, built, natural and cultural heritage.

NSW Parliament House is part of one of the most historic precincts in Australia. The Chambers Project aimed at preserving and upgrading both the 1843 Legislative Assembly and 1856 Legislative Council Chambers. Under our guidance as Heritage Architect and Lead Consultant, and in collaboration with International Conservation Services and Steenson Varming, we managed mechanical, electrical, specialist lighting, materials conservation, and accessibility aspects of the restoration. A detailed exploration of materials, colours, and supplier specifications ensured consistency and authenticity throughout the process.

The project was part of a broader renovation initiative aimed at preserving and upgrading the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council Chambers

In addition to this win, our work on the NSW Parliament Facade Project, that saw us lead critical maintenance work and a review of the buildings colour scheme, was shortlisted for a Built Conservation Award.

Brimming with historical significance, the facade underwent a meticulous restoration, led by Purcell
