Approval granted for Queen Elizabeth II Memorial

Proposals for the national memorial to Queen Elizabeth II have been approved by Westminster City Council, with Purcell part of the design team led by Foster + Partners.

Providing heritage advice, Purcell has helped shape a design that responds sensitively to the historic character of St James’s Park.

The scheme will introduce a new bridge, sculpture and landscape enhancements, creating a place for reflection and remembrance within one of London’s most significant Grade I-listed landscapes. The design draws on the original principles of John Nash, ensuring the memorial is carefully integrated into its historic setting.

The project will now progress to the next stage of detailed design, with further elements to be refined as it develops.
