AIA NSW award win for NSW Parliament restoration project

We’re incredibly proud to share that Purcell and Tonkin Zulaikha Greer (TZG), have been awarded the 2025 Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) NSW Award for Heritage Conservation for our work at NSW Parliament.
This prestigious award recognises excellence in heritage conservation and celebrates the projects that go beyond restoration — those that honour the past while actively supporting the future.
For us, this project was exactly that: an opportunity to safeguard one of Australia’s most significant public buildings while ensuring it continues to serve the people of New South Wales.
As the oldest public building in continuous use in the country, NSW Parliament is a site of national significance. Our role was to deliver a unified and sensitive response to this highly significant and complex site. Together, we restored and preserved critical heritage elements, upgraded services, and enhanced accessibility — all while keeping the building operational for its vital civic role.
– Tracey Skovronek, Managing Director Purcell Asia Pacific

This award is a testament to the collaborative effort between the client, architects, heritage consultants, materials conservation specialists, government stakeholders, and skilled craftspeople. We’re particularly proud of how this project balances respect for the building’s historical layers with the need for a functional, future-ready Parliament.
Thank you to the NSW Parliament team, and everyone who contributed to this important work. We look forward to continuing our mission of bringing new life to heritage through thoughtful, collaborative design.
